What a domain watchlist does

A domain watchlist tracks domains someone else owns today and tells you when they can be registered. Expiroo reads each domain's status straight from the registry and follows it through the four stages every expiring generic domain goes through: grace period, redemption, pending delete and available. Checks get more frequent as the name gets closer to release, so when it finally drops you hear about it within minutes instead of a day later.

The 4-stage expiration lifecycle

From expired to available, stage by stage

  1. 01Up to 45 days

    Grace period

The registration has expired. The owner can still renew at the normal price, so many names never get past this stage.

    Checked every 12 hours

  2. 0230 days

    Redemption

The registry has started deleting it. The owner can restore it only by paying a restore fee, and many don't.

    Checked every 6 hours

  3. 035 days

    Pending delete

Final stage. It can no longer be renewed or restored by anyone. The release date is now predictable.

Every 15 minutes, then every 5

  4. 04Released

    Available

The registry has deleted it. Anyone can register it at the normal price, first come, first served.

High-frequency drop tracking

Checks tighten as the drop gets closer

During the 5-day pending delete window, Expiroo checks the registry every 15 minutes, then every 5 minutes around the expected drop day. Names that are still registered are checked once a day, so the effort goes where it matters.

Email or webhook when it's released

The check that finds the name unregistered sends your alert right away, by email or as a signed webhook (X-Expiroo-Signature) to your own endpoint or automation.

Turn alerts on per stage: grace period, redemption, pending delete and available. If the owner renews, you get one note and the watch keeps going.

Drop date checker

An estimated drop day from real registry data

Drop date calculators ask you to type in the expiry date. Expiroo reads the date the registry moved the name into redemption or pending delete and works out the release day from there. For example, a .com that entered pending delete on October 7 was listed to drop on October 13.

Watching a domain isn't the same as catching it

Desirable names are usually registered by drop-catch services within seconds of release. When we looked up three .com names from a public deletion list on October 11, 2026, all three had already been registered again, each with a new registration dated October 10. A watchlist tells you exactly when a name is about to drop and when it does. For a name you really want, pair it with a backorder at a drop-catch service and use the alerts to know when to act.

Domain drops, answered

How do I know when a domain will drop?

+

Check its registry status. A .com in pending delete is released on the 6th day after it entered that status: a name that went pending delete on October 7 drops on October 13. Expiroo reads the status and the date it changed straight from the registry and shows the estimated drop day for you.

How long is a domain in pending delete?

+

5 days for .com, .net, .org and most generic TLDs. During those 5 days nobody, not even the current owner, can renew or restore it. Once the period ends the registry deletes it and anyone can register it at the normal price.

How long is the redemption period?

+

30 days for most generic TLDs. The owner can still restore the name during redemption, but only by paying a restore fee on top of the renewal, which is why many names in redemption go on to drop.

Can I get an alert when a domain becomes available?

+

Yes. Add the domain to your watchlist and Expiroo emails you, or calls your webhook, as soon as a check finds it unregistered. During pending delete the name is checked every 15 minutes, and every 5 minutes around the expected drop day.

Will Expiroo register or backorder the domain for me?

+

No. Expiroo tells you, it doesn't register. Valuable names are often caught by drop-catch services within seconds of release, so if a name matters a lot to you, place a backorder with a drop-catch service as well and use the watchlist to know exactly when to act.

Do you track domain auctions?

+

No. Expired-domain auctions run at individual registrars and drop-catch services, not at the registry, so they don't show up in registry data. Expiroo tracks the registry lifecycle: grace, redemption, pending delete and available.

Which domain extensions work?

+

Any extension with public RDAP or WHOIS data. The grace, redemption and pending delete stages are standard for generic TLDs like .com, .net and .org. Many country-code TLDs use their own timelines, so for those the drop-day estimate may not apply.

Is the domain watchlist free?

+

Yes. Checking a domain's stage needs no account. Watching domains needs a free Expiroo account so alerts have somewhere to go, and you can watch up to 20 at a time.
