How this checks propagation
This tool queries the same record from four independent public DNS resolvers, Cloudflare, Google, NextDNS, and DNS.SB, run by four separate operators with separate caches, and shows every answer side by side. If they all agree, the change has propagated to those vantage points. If one still shows an older value, its cache hasn't expired yet, and it will catch up once the record's TTL passes.

How DNS propagation works
When you change a record, only the authoritative nameserver updates instantly. Every resolver worldwide keeps a cached copy until its TTL runs out, then fetches the new value. That staggered refresh is what "propagation" means, and it is why a change can be live for some visitors and not others for a while.
Why TTL controls the speed
The single biggest lever on propagation speed is the record's TTL, set before you make the change. Lower the TTL a day ahead of a planned migration and resolvers will refresh within minutes; leave it high and the same change can take hours to reach everyone.

What is DNS propagation?
When a DNS record changes, resolvers cache the old value until its TTL expires. Propagation is the period where different resolvers can briefly show different values for the same record.
Why do different resolvers show different results?
Each resolver caches independently on its own schedule. One that cached the record recently keeps serving the old value until its own cache expires, even after the authoritative record already changed.
How long does DNS propagation take?
It depends on the record's TTL. A 5-minute TTL clears from most caches within minutes; a 24-hour or longer TTL can take up to that long to fully propagate.

When every resolver you check returns the new value and none still serves the old one. Because caches expire at different times, expect a window where results are mixed before they all agree.
